Personal Survival and Spiritual Transformation in A World Gone Mad
5:00 PM

Biology Rm 1103 - Muir College (UCSD)

Muir Lane, La Jolla, CA

Mike Byron has a Ph.D. in Political Science from UC Irvine and teaches Political Science and Political Economy in local colleges in the San Diego area. He has published a number of peer-reviewed professional papers, presented papers at international conferences and has written numerous newspaper opinion pieces.  Mike was a member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Sociocybernetics.  He was also the Democratic candidate for US Congress in the 49th District in 2004, having previously run as a write-in candidate in 2002.  (and he was an insiration to me to run in 2006)

In Mike Byron's first book, Infinity's Rainbow: The Politics of Energy, Climate, and Globalization, he developed a universal theory of why civilizations collapse and applied this theory to the 5,000 year long history of civilization collapses. He applies his findings to our present day global civilization. He will be talking to HERO about his second book, The Path Through Infinity's Rainbow, which follows where the first leaves off--addressing the fundamental tactical and strategic questions of individual and group survival in the context of creating a civilization that is humane and sustainable. Byron offers real-world suggestions for transforming ourselves, our communities, and the world.
